What is the best part of Family Night?!
Who loves Family Night with Escuela Integrada?!
If you’ve had the opportunity to attend one, you probably experienced some laughs, hugs, dancing and, of course, Domino’s pizza!
There is something else that goes on, too: most of the families save a few pieces of pizza and bring it home. They gather a few styrofoam plates for a makeshift to-go box and fill it with a portion of the pizza they received.
I started to notice this pattern after we had been doing Family Nights for a year or so. I originally assumed it was for them to eat later, but then when I started to ask, they would say, “It’s for my grandma,” or “It’s for my aunt,” or “It’s for my brother.” They left family night with full bellies, a smile on their faces and a gift of pizza to share with a loved one at home.
The value of a few slices of Domino’s pizza may not feel like much, but for families at Escuela Integrada, it is a gift. Food is not taken for granted when it is scarce.
Malnutrition and starvation are stark realities for the families we serve, which is why we are committed to providing food at school. We know that serving two meals each day protects students from the devastating impacts of food insecurity and stunting.
As we come to the final hours of our year-end campaign to support the Meal Program at Escuela Integrada, please keep this in mind. Each meal is a gift.
All funds donated by 11:59 p.m. local time go directly to GRACES’ Meal Support program and will continue to provide daily nutritious food for the kids at the school for breakfast and lunch.
Will you help us meet this critical need with a donation before midnight to GRACES’ year-end campaign?
We cannot continue this work without your support!
