“I always had a plate of food to give my children”

“I always had a plate of food to give my children”

Lesbia Reyes is a single mother of two. When they first enrolled at Escuela Integrada, Lesbia didn’t have a formal job or a consistent way of providing food for her children.

The average family income for the families at Escuela Integrada is $297 per month. They do not receive food stamps or have any other type of governmental assistance to make ends meet. For Lesbia’s family this means daily worry about how to feed her kids.

GRACES is committed to making sure no child at Escuela Integrada goes hungry, and we often meet families like Lesbia’s in a critical moment of need.

Every child receives two nutritious meals every day at school, which gives them the opportunity to learn and grow. During the vacation months of November and December, GRACES provides food bags for families so that the children do not go without food when they are away from school.

Even in the most desperate times for Lesbia’s family, she always had a plate of food to give her children. This has an enormous impact on the students’ education and on the family’s wellbeing.

This December, we have an ambitious goal to provide 35,000 meals at Escuela Integrada. We know from research and personal experience that a hungry child cannot learn.

Will you help us provide 35,000 meals? At a cost of $1.50 per meal:

  • $15 feeds one student for one week
  • $300 feeds a class (20 students) for one week
  • $2550 feeds the entire school (170 kids) for one week

One hundred percent of funds raised for this program will go directly to keeping the children fed.
