Meet the Students

GRACES implements its vision and purpose through supporting the school in education and nutrition programs, counseling, mentoring, and longterm sustainability programs. All of the children attending the school are indigenous and live with the effects of daily prejudice, abuse, poverty and social inequities.

“In my free time I like to mess around and play with my family. There are 3 people in my family. My grandmother is the only one who works and she sells souvenirs and trinkets. When I am older I want to be a teacher. The values I find most important are love and respect. Something I want is my entire family to spend Christmas together.”

“My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. There are 5 members in my family. My dad works as an accountant. When I am older I want to be a chef and I intend to study very hard to achieve it. The most important value in a person, in my opinion, is the want to help people. There are ten people in my family. My grandpa carries things and my grandma make tortillas. When I grow up I want to be a soccer player. If I could have anything it would be a car and a plane. What I want for my family is for them to be happy.

When I grow up I want to be a professional soccer player. The most important thing to me is to show love and if I could have one thing for my family it would be to grow in a positive way and be happy”

There are nine people in my family. My mother washes clothes and helps my grandmother.  When I grow up I want to be a firefighter. What is important to me is helping people. What I want for my family is clothes, another room, shoes, two beds and a dresser.

“Things I like to do in my free time include practicing boxing and soccer. There are 8 members in my family. My dad is a farmer and my mom stays at our house. My goal for the future is to become a great accountant. Respect is the most important value to me. Things I want for my family are blessings from God and that we can all live another day together. I hope my future includes me graduating and becoming a professional and getting good employment. If I could change one thing about Guatemala it would be less corruption.”

“Listening to music is my favorite pastime. There are 10 people in my family. My mom works selling tortillas. When I grow up I want to be a massage therapist. Goals I have are to finish each grade with good grades. To me, respect is the most important value in a person. Things I want for my family are good health, blessings and medicine. Aspirations I have for my future are to get a good education, have a good career and help my mom. Things I want to see change for the better in Guatemala are for people to give respect to one another. Teach respect and give respect regardless of what decisions we make or what path we choose.”
